Import & Export
Your records, your choice
Switching to Bee Happy Hives from another app, or moving away? Either way your beekeeping records belong to you. Here's what comes out, and what you can bring in.
Export — taking your data with you
📋 Inspection history (CSV)
Every inspection you've logged — date, hive, queen seen, brood frames, stores, varroa, notes, photos referenced. Opens in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets.
💊 Treatments Register (CSV)
VMR 2013 / EU 2019/6 medicine record. Product, batch, expiry, dose, withdrawal period, prescription/SQP reference — everything a vet, BBKA mentor, or DAERA inspector would ask to see. Best practice is to keep these for 5 years.
🖼️ Photos
Inspection photos, varroa board photos, treatment box and receipt photos are saved alongside each record in the cloud. Tap a photo in any record to open it full-size — long-press to save to your phone.
🌐 Web dashboard
Sign in at web.beehappyhoney.uk on a desktop browser to browse the full archive, edit older records, and download bulk CSVs in one click.
Import — coming from another app
Already keep records in another app?
Bulk import is on the roadmap — for now, the smoothest move is to keep your old archive as a CSV file (every app worth using lets you export one) and start fresh in Bee Happy Hives from your next inspection.
A few records you'd like in early? Email hello@beehappyhoney.uk with the CSV attached and we'll bring them across for you.
Switching checklist
Export your existing records as CSV from the old app
Save the CSV somewhere safe (cloud drive, email to yourself)
Add your apiary location in Bee Happy Hives (Settings → Apiaries)
Add your hives (one row per hive — name, type, queen year)
Log your next inspection here — your colony health summary on Home grows from there
Set the date the colony was first established (in hive details) so seasonal advice is accurate
Sharing with vets, mentors & inspectors
When DAERA, NIHBS, BBKA or your vet asks…
Tap Download CSV on either of the cards above and email or print the file. The Treatments Register CSV alone covers the medicine-record question most inspectors ask first.
DAERA & BeeBase exports
Format-specific exports for DAERA (NI) and BeeBase (GB) inspector returns are coming. Until then, the CSV plus a short cover note works — that's how most beekeepers were doing it before any app existed.
Promise: export is free, forever, on every tier. Your data is never locked behind a paywall.
Terms & Data Ownership
Version 2026-05-v1 · Effective May 2026
Bee Happy Hives
Read time: about 2 minutes. Plain English. No tricks.
1 · Your data is yours
Every inspection you log, every note you write, every varroa count you record belongs to you.
We will never sell your individual records. We will never share them without your permission.
You can download everything as a CSV file at any time, from the Settings screen.
If you delete your account, your records are deleted within 30 days.
2 · How we use anonymous patterns
When you log an inspection, your anonymised data helps build a picture of beekeeping health across Ireland and the UK.
We might know that 25% of hives in County Antrim had chalk brood in May 2026. We will never know it was YOUR hive. No names. No hive IDs. Nothing that identifies you.
We may share or license these regional patterns to universities, conservation bodies like NIHBS, and government agencies like DAERA.
This helps protect Irish bees. By using the app, you are contributing to that.
3 · Contributing to science (optional)
If you want to go further, you can choose to share your identified data with named research partners.
This is completely optional. You can change your mind at any time in Settings.
When our first university or research partnership goes live, everyone who has opted in will receive one year free.
4 · What we never do
We never sell your personal data to advertisers.
We never share your individual records without your explicit consent.
We never lock your data behind a paywall. Export is always free.
The legal bit, kept short
Who runs this app: Apiary Records Ltd, registered in Northern Ireland, company number NI739315. Privacy contact: hello@beehappyhoney.uk.
Why it's lawful for us to hold your data: we hold it because you've signed up for the service (a contract). We share aggregated anonymous patterns because the data can no longer identify anyone. We only share identified data if you've opted in (your consent).
Where it's stored: Supabase cloud, in the EU/EEA, encrypted in transit and at rest. A copy is also kept on your device so the app works offline.
How long we keep it: for as long as your account exists. Treatment records: under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013, best practice is for you as the beekeeper to keep these for 5 years — we recommend exporting them as a CSV before deleting your account so you have your own copy.
Your UK GDPR rights: see your data, fix it, take it with you (CSV export), have it deleted, or object to processing you didn't consent to. Email hello@beehappyhoney.uk and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Age: the app is for beekeepers aged 13 and over. Under 13s need a parent or guardian to manage the account.
If we change these terms: we'll show you the new version inside the app and ask you to read and re-accept before you carry on. The version number above (2026-05-v1) is what's currently in force.

We've updated our Terms
Version 2026-05-v1 · about 2 minutes to read
We've rewritten our Terms in plain English to make it clearer how your data is used. The short version:
Your anonymised data helps build NI / UK bee health patterns we may share or license to universities, NIHBS, DAERA. No names. No hive IDs.
3 · Optional science opt-in
You can choose to share identified data with named research partners. One year free when the first partnership goes live.
4 · What we never do
Never sell to advertisers. Never share without your consent. Never paywall your export.

⚠️ Unusual temperature or weight drop
